I installed a 24v xi5 yesterday and have a quick question. I had some 4 gauge wire in the garage, can I use that to make the + & – battery to battery connection? Or do I need to have the same gauge wire as what came stock w/ the plug? (Think it’s 6gauge) also, do I need a fuse on this connection? There is one on the stock plug + wire.
    Thanks

Not sure about the wire gauge, but I don’t think it would hurt to have the same gauge. I do know that on my last three trolling motors, which were rigged professionally, no fuse between batteries is needed.

It will work fine,. I had that setup on my last boat. The mechanic at the boat shop told me to set it up that way.
Don’t add a breaker to the jumper. Only on the + (load side) from the battery to the trolling motor.

The key is to not go with smaller gauge wire. 4 gauge is a larger gauge wire than 6 gauge so go for it!
