i know a few guys from the meyer utility structures shop doing that!!!!!!! but i wont. those vehicles only have 2 wheels…………….:???:
Organized traffic jam…no thanks. I usually do the flood run in the boat. Waters a little high this year for parking in Prescott and at the Nauti Hawg. Maybe next year.
There are far too many drunken riders, fights, and crowded areas for my taste. I’ll pass again as I have for every other year of my life. What percentage of riders have alcohol in their system on Saturday afternoon of the flood run? 70-80%? More?
My wife works as the lead in the local emergency room. The stories she comes home with every year after the flood run are some of the most graphic things imaginable. She goes in every year Saturday morning at 7am knowing she’s likely going to be calling Mayo 1, ambulances, and enduring a backed-up emergency room all day and night.
I don’t care if it’s going to be 70 and sunny…wear long sleeves of leather and pants, cover yourself up, and ride defensively. One mistake in a crowded area this Saturday (either from a vehicle or cycle) could easily kill multiple people and has more years than not.

I’ve actually been cross county, back & forth, many times on motorcycle….. by myself and as part of small & large groups of riders…..several flood runs, sturgis, Milwaukee 100th HD anniversary party, Daytona, Kansas City Thunder, etc …. to simply imply that most are driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs is asinine.
I’ve certainly not seen that to be factual. I’ve also never seen a single fight in all the years / events I’ve attended. Not even in sturgis, at the buffalo chip of all places. It’s a lot of crazy but very safe and everyone was there to have a good time.
I have also worked similar events (nascar & motorcycle events) as a medic & found very little influence issues.
Having wrecked 1 of the 4 bikes I have had, alcohol was no factor either. You put guys and horsepower together, stuff happens! No alcohol or drugs needed!
Before you stereotype an entire group, consider that these are more likely your neighbors, doctors, your kid’s school teachers, your policemen, firemen, doctors, nurses, etc…. who are just out enjoying their motorcycles and spending money in your town.

You hit the nail on the head my friend. I’ve rode bikes all my life and you always get the typical stereotype thing. Especially bikes, tattoos, blah, blah. Bad people drunks partying. Some I guess are yes but to say these biker runs are is a joke. Talking out of your a$$ I’d assume.
Well I’m going to enjoy it. Rode from Alexandria to Redwing on Friday. The weather is going to be perfect on Saturday.

Yea, nobody ever got drunk and killed themselves in a boat…
Every segment of society has its reckless and irresponsible element. In a large gathering the chances of those increase no matter what the venue. If you want to decrease your chances of running across the negative element, stay away from crowds. But there are still no guarantees, stupid is everywhere.
My and the FW are heading down to Prescott and hang out at the Monkey Bar to watch the Bikes go by.

Well the local ambulance has been dispatched three times this morning for bike incidents…one in the ditch without any other vehicles involved and one accident where a bike was laid down to avoid another. The most recent was for a car vs. cycle crash. Not typical for 10:40am on a Saturday in the Lake City and Wabasha area.
If you are out riding please take caution and be defensive. Wear the right gear. There’s likely to be a record number of riders out today.
I don’t mean to stereotype and I realize alcohol isn’t consumed by everyone out riding, but the fact that local establishments can clear more in alcohol sales today than they do all month does bring cause for concern whether it’s cycles or automobile drivers.
Many of the bars over winter don’t have but a few people there during a typical day, say 20. Now you have 500 to 1000 stopping by, not hard to surpass the month even if they each only have 1 drink. Going to be the first time out this year for most and people are bound to be rusty, that and people in cars get dumb around bikes doesn’t help.
To the biker that sent a text to me at 9:30 last night…If you want me to come to the Border Lounge, you should call so I hear the phone!
Spent a few hours in Prescott watching the bikers go by. You couldn’t ask for a better day!

On three different trip out west, mainly to Yellowstone and Glacier Nat’l parks, we’ve shared the roads and campgrounds with bikers. Lots and lots of bikers. Never had a lick of trouble and really enjoyed the chit chat with them. There may be a few in the mix that are a problem but I think that the masses of bikers keep those other sorts pretty well hemmed in.

Gotcha… Their atm was down so the tips were limited.

I literally saw a guy and gal almost go fist a cuffs WHILE riding their bikes. I kid you not. They eventually turned off while screaming at each other and swing their arms at one another…did I say this was all on their bikes? Going 65+ on hwy 10 just outside Hastings?
