Hi I am looking for info on a 2002 125 mercury elpto. I had my boat out today and it was running fine. then left to go to another spot and the motor would not run at full speed it would run fine when at lower speed but hardly had enough power to plane out. It would run about 15mph under normal top speed? Thanks in advance for any help!

Google “Mercury outboard power pack problems”. From your description, it sounds like you may have a bad power pack. It’s fairly common and they’re simple to replace.

i would replace the plugs and make sure the fuel bulb is firm. If that doesn’t do it I would replace the fuel pump diaphragm.

Ok thanks. I have noticed the bulb hasn’t been getting as firm as normal. Maybe could be the issue? Sorry kind of a newbie with this stuff.

Seeing the year of your Merc have you ever changed out the fuel lines with the new type? Might want to cut a small piece off and look at the inside so see if it is delaminating can cause this exact issue.

I actually just got it about a month ago it’s been running fine up until tonight.so not really sure about the fuel line. Although it didn’t seem to be priming great.

Also there is a 90 degree elbow coming out the top of the oil reservoir and I found about a 5 inch piece of clear pipe. looked like it should be connected to it?

I have seen plenty of them rot of over time and then the engine doesn’t get any oil and then severe engine damage accurse. Check and see where the oil line goes too or take a pic of it cause if its a main oil line that will cause issues.

Took it to a mechanic today the hose was just a vent. He believes the coil is bad and only running on 3 cylinders after he tested it.

Keep us posted. Got a ’94 Yami 150 Pro V doing the same thing.

Sorry for the late reply! Had the coil replaced and it is running fine now. Thanks for the input!
