Motor Error on MinnKota Terrova Controller

I have a 80# Terrova that I’ve had for one season. Recently I get a message on the handheld that states “Motor Error” and won’t let me use the controller. I can hook up the foot pedal but it doesn’t have spot lock and can be challenging to use in fast water on the river. Couple questions:

    1) Has anyone had this before and what was the fix? Sometimes stowing the motor or unhooking the battery on the controller will work.

    2) Can you spot spot lock from the Helix 9? The main issue when I get the error is not being able to use spot lock anymore.

Someone told me the error was due to the loss of the GPS signal but I fish mainly metro so the signal should not be an issue. I’m checking with MinnKota to see if it’s a known issue with them.

It’s highly unlikely that any company will admit to any known problem. Especially mechanical or electrical failures. My experience has been that they are fairly helpful for troubleshooting when you call. Just try to call at low volume times like 8-10 am or 2 pm. The wait can be lengthy.

I’ve never had that problem myself but it could be anything from low/bad batteries to a bad ipilot.

Is it within the 3 year warranty? Take it to Capras or Action’s Fishing in Anoka. Jack will get you back up and running faster than anyone.
