Motion Decoys for Crow Hunting

Late last winter my son I and tried crow hunting for the first time ever. It was fun and we learned quite a bit in the few times we went out. We want to try it again this fall and I’m looking for advice on motion decoys. Last year I bought a Crow Flapper from Urea Duck but it broke the during the first set I used with it. This decoy seems to be very poorly built and extremely delicate. It basically looks like they took one of those flapping bat Halloween toys and put a crow body around it.

What do you think of the Mojo Crow? The description says the wings repeatedly spin on and off in 1.5 second intervals. Anybody have any experience with the Lucky Duck’s Triple Play Motion Crows? This has three crow bodies each on a spoke that supposedly twists and turns to simulate crows feeding on the ground. I’ve also seen a YouTube video where the guys had two crows on two rods that “flew” around in a tight circle. I think it’s called a Merry-Go-Round Crow decoy but it lists for $190 from Knutson’s sporting goods so I’m thinking that is more than I want to spend now.

Wind driven decoys might work on windy days but I want something for calm days too. Maybe flagging might work like it does for geese if the crows are a ways off.

    Thanks for the advice.

Mojo makes a solid product. No experience with their crow but a lot with their duck spinners.

I had a couple early model Lucky Duck, duck spinners and they weren’t that good. The wind connection was poor at best. Since then I believe they have improved.

Not much experience with crows but a spinner doesn’t come to mind as the first choice to get their attention. I would think more like a vortex to simulate crows attacking or working over something. Flagging would be another good idea.

    Good luck

I have used recorded crow calls with great success. Seemed to override any decoys we used and it sure brings them in. Once youve heard the recordings enough you can do a lot better with mouth calls which is all I ever use now.
