Mosquitoes – REALLY bad right now in my area

Another thing to keep in mind here. Studies have shown that mosquitoes are attracted to certain characteristics that people have or may not have too. Several specific factors can attract mosquitoes, including the carbon dioxide you exhale, your body odor, and your body temperature. A combination of these factors likely makes certain people more attractive to mosquitoes.

If you’re breathing heavier or if you stink, you’re more likely to attract them!

Well when your working out side at night on your yard and splitting wood getting eaten alive I’ll take this study in to consideration. I better stop breathing heavy and sweating. Maybe I’ll stay in for now on and hire the jobs out lol

Thats funny. I feel like my experience is opposite as far as stink/smells. The longer I am in the bwca, the less the bugs seem to find me (I don’t use deet either). My experience is that when you smell good (freshly put on cologne/deodorant/body wash) they pay a lot more attention to you compared to a “natural” smell.

The lifespan of an adult mosquito is about 2-3 weeks in length. They reproduce in stagnant pools of standing water.

But they gestate for up to 4 weeks, so mosquitoes now were likely eggs laid around Memorial Day.

I was told that each water level drop causes the eggs to just lay dormant. Then if a high water occurs ? ALL the eggs hatch almost at once. Then that massive group can lay a giant bunch again.
Water levels are the supposed to be the key to bad years.

I live in Sibley County. No rain = no mosquitoes. Hardly any around right now.

Speaking of deer flies those hat sticky things really do work.
They were pretty bad last weekend picking blueberries and I forgot to put one on.

I swear your profile said Cold Spring at one point thumper. Same area though. It’s unreal how green everything is up there.

Yea cold spring ain’t big enough for the 2 of us!!!🤣 rotflol he had to move!!; devil rotflol rotflol

When we moved to the saint cloud area I wish I had taken a closer look at Cold Spring. I kind of narrowed down where to live based on the Quality of the schools. I narrowed down the choices to Sartell, Sauk Rapids, and Becker. My wife and daughter then took a tour of each school. After the tour of Becker my daughter said to me ” Dad please don’t make me go to a Hillbilly school” My wife said it didn’t help that the Counselor said that just be aware there is not much for a teen ager to do in Becker – she said most kids have to go to St Cloud to have some fun – great job of selling your school and town there Counselor. They then toured Sauk Rapids, which I though my Daughter would really like because they had a great culinary program which my daugher was really into at that time. Both my Daughter and wife said it was Ok but somehow just seemed a little cold and not much energy – Whatever that means. After the tour of Sartell both my Daughter and wife said that was their top choice. Being that Sartell had a closed school dist. that meant that we had to live in Sartell for her to go to Sartell. Knowing what I know now i wish I would have taken a better look at Cold Spring or Even Annandale – Although Annandale would be a rather long drive each day to work. Now that my Daughter has Graduated I have no tie to Sartell so I don’t know how much longer we will live there.

There’s drama in the ROCORI school district right now with the racial stuff. They can’t seem to keep superintendents either. I think one of the principles left too . I graduated from there as well as my kids and am proud of it.

Don’t take this the wrong way, I like living here in cold spring but there a big city, st cloud wanna be with the council. Yet clamor about small town hometown pride. And really beat up shopping local, I get it but …then I see former business owners, influential residents shop out of town!!

I just do my own thing, mind my own business.
