Morning fishing.

Anyone fish in the morning this time of year? With storms coming my only chance is going to be tomorrow morning, think I’ll stick to searching deeper areas, are most people picking shallower lakes? Ham is in the oven trying one from Hackenmuellers Meats this year.

We were off the lake by 11am after a successful morning of crappie fishing yesterday. During a warming trend like this I think the mornings are good. You just want to avoid going on a morning following a cold day.
When it comes down to it, for me I fish when I can, regardless of the conditions. That’s just life with a family.

Thanks grub. Yup the wife seems to like it when I go in the morning. Love the morning, tend to have the lake to myself (last year though I’ve never seen so many people out there early!) Where should I go Grub?? Pm me
    Thanks.

Ham was great, made a glaze with brown sugar, ground ginger and tart cherry juice-awesome.

Someone posted that they were catching really big crappies after dark in another thread. That may be a good tactic Tim

I’m hoping to go out in an hour or so Tim. I’ll let you know how it goes if I actually make it out.

Got out from 11-2 this morning. Chisago area. Found crappies THICK in protected bays in 5 ft or less water. When I say thick I mean if I dropped my net in the water I would net about 15 every time. That thick. No size though, assuming all males still. Females will follow soon or at night I would imagine.

Got a bunch in a lake by you, solid 10s and 11s, took some looking, found one school using SI (big deal for me) Only saw a couple of boats, nice to be able to fish a weekday morning, so chill.

We fished a lake Sunday in Wright county. Did not catch them shallow until later morning. We marked them deep but could not get them to bite. Then found them shallow about 10am and the bite lasted till around 1-2. Mostly males but found a few keepers. Water temps started in the 43-45 range and ended in the 46-48 range.

    Not a competition but:

Going out tomorrow, cold water and the temp trend is down, not good, but have to try it!

Got out Friday evening. I think the boat is still wet but we found some better fish in the same spot. Water temps were around 57 in the small areas I was fishing.

Kind of fun going with a guy that has a drone too.

They sure were tight lipped for me this morning, water temps need to start rising.

I haven’t had a great bite since that last warm day. The cold weather has pushed them back out a bit and they have been tight lipped. So have the sconni bass for me which is really the disappointing thing…. bawling

Lawmakers should know this can be a tricky time to catch ol’ greenie and the people who would go out with the snow flying would be the hard cores who tend to be C&R folk anyway.

It’s not about the bass. That’s the problem.

Pretty famous even for my generation. Not like I’m 25 or anything. 35 here.
