A buddy found some dark ones already last Friday.
He was about 20 miles south of Rochester.

I’m north of Rochester and it was really dry in the woods. I was hoping for more of the rain some parts of the state got but we only got a small amount.
Haven’t found any yet here but I heard some guys found some little black ones under the goose berry bushes in my area.

    C’mon rain !

That’s good info. Thanks man. I agree. This cool week means next week at the earliest for any real action around the cities.

I’m pretty sure that is NOT a morel.
I think they call it a false morel.

    Don’t eat it!
Unless, I’m mistaken but it sure does not look like the ones I pick.

That appears to be a half free cap morel. They are often early, somewhat fragile and crumble easily while you carry them. We often use them as morel flavored thickener in dishes.

When in doubt, throw it out.

I’m thinking next week BUT the greenery looks right around here now (my usual indicator) so I may check if the rain stops. Targeting next week for sure though. Probably the week after too if it doesnt get too hot.

I finally found some. On the way back from Montana last weekend we stopped at the farm in Ottertail county. Checking on my food plots and my sons sees a morel. We stopped and picked 7 of them. The biggest was just over 9″ long.
