I think they will start popping when it warms up again

What do you think the cold nights next week will do to them up here. It looks to be going into the low thirties and probably high twenties at night . Will this ruin them or can they handle that. I’m going to go take a look around on Sunday as it’s been nice for over a week and it’s raining today.

Those night temps definitely aren’t going to help the cause, but one or two nights shouldn’t sink a season this early. I’m not sure where you’re located, but if you’re North of the metro it won’t impact much as the peak has to be a couple weeks out there. Temps in the 20s in far Southern MN would be very bad news though.

I’m in grand rapids, probably won’t matter then if it’s a couple weeks early anyway. It’s been warm at night for six or seven days , and we just had our first rain. The lilacs in my yard are just starting to show some tiny green leaves sprouting, the size of a chipmunks ears lol.

The FW saw someone selling morels on fb. Was asking $40 lb. Dubuque, IA.
I’m not a mushroom fan. I can eat about 3 a couple times each spring. If I don’t have any I don’t miss them. Just not into fungus.

Will fungus combat the virus? If so maybe I try them, if not I can go without I suppose. grin

I hate mushrooms. When my wife uses cream of mushroom soup in recipes, I pick those tiny suckers out. But for some reason I enjoy hunting for them. Just started a couple years ago, and only found a handful. I’d make the perfect morel hunting buddy since I wouldn’t take much of the bounty. But then again, I’m not so good at finding them. rotflol

Comparing morels to any other type of mushroom is similar to comparing steak and dog food.

Every person I’ve had tell me “I can’t stand mushrooms” has tried morels and usually says something like “they don’t taste like mushrooms at all”

$40 a pound is excessive…I don’t care how early it is. I walked another 2 hours today and only found a handful. If we don’t get some measurable rain soon in SE Minnesota, the morel season is going to be over before it barely starts. The woods are a tinderbox still.

Found my first mushrooms today mowing my lawn. These came from one I found last year and I put it in the blender with some flour and molasses and water to make a slurry of spores. I poured it around my yard. I didn’t think it was going to work , but to my surprise it did. They are about an inch to an inch and a half tall. I’m wondering how long they will continue to grow bigger.
