Just wondering what you folks who hunt for morels are seeing or hearing? My son is asking if people are finding any numbers yet as he wants to get out. We are in western WI, the La Crosse area if any one has any general knowledge. He is a college student so with work and school he doesn’t have a ton of free time and wants to make the best use of his time. Thanks!

I did find a handful on Monday in the south metro. Know a couple buddies that picked a few here and there also. Its pretty early yet. We need some rain !! the ones I found were small yet and starting to dry up. They are out there but were only 10% of the way in here. Should be good in the coming week. We need some rain!!

Without rain it’s going to be a lousy season here in SE Minnesota. Anything that pops has only a day or two to get picked before it’s burnt beyond picking. The repeated freezes coming aren’t going to help anything either.

Last two years find some in the woods next to house. Been looking every day and nothing yet. As I’m walking back to house past our fire pit I noticed about 10 of them that have popped through the crushed rock in the fire pit area. I guess I grab a beer and chair and watch them grow. Would post pictures but I’m not that smart.

In Richland county by my farm it’s been way too dry. Been looking for the last week and next to nothing. Neighbors have found a few where the ground was more damp and the moss was green

I went out tonight by Reads Landing (south of Lake City on the river) and found 42 in a little under 2 hours. This spot is one of my better “honey holes” that regularly kicks out 80+ per picking so this wasn’t great by any means. The ones I pulled tonight were mostly on the smaller side, but some bigger ones mixed in. All were found at significant elevation on South facing slopes. This initial flush is weak to say the best, but I have some faith for late next week if forecasted rain holds.
