I think you did about average. Your team is similar to the one I drafted. If Kincaid can turn into a nice TE and you get another guy or two that outperforms you should be in good shape.

    and Kicker

I think I just got the best kicker. Said no one, ever, in the history of fantasy football.

How many teams? If that’s 16 teams you just won it all

Only 10 teams. It would look much better if it were a 16 team league

I will toot my own horn and I can back it up with over 100K earnings as a side hustle in DFS. Used to commish a league but got tired of the drama. just like lifelong friends, its all about themselves in the end and why my dog is my BFF.

Trust your gut and if you can’t, feel free to ask for advice.

Auction draft was last night. I blew most of my fake 200 bucks on my starting lineup but that left me very little for backups and bench players. If anyone gets hurt, I’m screwed.

Draft order went Jefferson, McCaffrey, Chase, Kelce, Hill, Robinson, Chubb, Ekeler, Diggs, Pollard.

Probably should have saved some dough for better bench players.

    16 Teams…PPR

I won last year, so I had the dreaded 16th pick and started with Chubb then Lamb at 17

I didn’t like Tua but ended up with him. I also wasn’t crazy about DJ Moore but pulled the trigger on him. I figured if he put up pro bowl numbers in the disaster that has been Carolina, he should be able to do the same with the disaster that is the Bears.

for years i wanted to see how great my teams would be with Waller. last year i finally got to see it and he burned that bridge. had Moore last year too and that was brutal to watch. if you believe Fields learned how to throw this year, then you might have a WR3 at best.

Waller is always “IF he stays healthy”. That being said I’d take him on my team. I was trying to get Hockenson and he got sniped the pick before me, then when the TE purge happened I had just made a pick so I punted and took a flyer on the Kincaid kid from Buffalo. Which might end up working out well.

Bucky I’ve got Lamb and the Eagles defense too. And Carr is also my back up QB.

I noticed you only had one defense and one kicker. Some people in my league do it that way too. They pay for a free agent when the bye week occurs. I have always drafted two of each for bye weeks or if one kicker starts to do better then another.

I drafted the Jets D but have since decided to pick up whatever D is playing the Cardinals this season. Might stash the Jets D for weeks when the D is taken that is playing the Cards.
They are blatantly tanking for the #1 pick. More than any other team I’ve seen and the season hasn’t even started yet.

I’m having a hard time choosing between Rashaad White and James Conner for week one. White is going up against the Vikes terrible D. Conner takes a lot of heat but he’s been one of the most consistent fantasy RB’s over the past few seasons. That being said, he’s on the Cards who are absolutely putrid.

If my main defense has a terrible matchup I’ll add someone playing a garbage team and just cut a bad bench guy. Kicker wise I drop mine at the buy. Regardless of how good he is, they’re still subject to their team’s matchup and offensive unit. Last year when I won it I didn’t draft a backup QB either. I drafted every handcuff RB I could get and made it work.

I can’t argue with what worked, but Tua clearly has a recent concussion issue and that could easily occur again this season. If he has one more I could see him sitting out the entire season.

i think Tua is one more concussion away from filing retirement papers. they got a tough schedule to start but arguably the best WR duo in the league. heard he practiced on how to fall when he gets hit this off season.

Had my $200 budget auction draft last night while on the ride back from the cabin and at an anniversary party, so I was pretty pleased it didn’t go too sideways. I was hoping to be WR heavy with a couple solid RB options. I tried bumping JJ a little too far and got him at $79, so I had to adjust plans a bit and switched to a more well balanced lineup including Mahomes against my better judgement (Don’t pay for/draft early QB’s). Here’s what I got in purchase price order:
    JJ $79
    Mahomes $40
    Mattison $28
    Watson $21
    Hockenson $11
    James Cook $10
    Charbonnet $2
    Robinson Jr $2
    Sutton $2
    Jets D $1
    Toney $1
    Osborn $1
    Renfrow $1
    Deuce Vaughn $1

And yes I’m Vikings heavy bc I’m a rube, and also because I think their offense is going to be very good this year (somewhat objectively jester )

I think Mattison for $28 is more egregious than either of those but I dont play FF at all and never have. My wife asked me to help her with her picks and when she showed my kids they basically laughed at her. She was happy with them. She does however have two TEs, Hockenson and Kelce which they are essentially WRs the way they play.

Those are pretty standard amounts for a 12 team league $200 budget (ESPN had JJ at $76 and Mahomes at $38). Here’s the price on some of the other top picks: McCaffrey $75, Chase $77, Kelce $70, Hill $74, Bijan Robinson $66, Henry $65 Chubb $54, Ekeler $72, Diggs $50, Lamb $52 Pollard $52, Adams $64, Barkely $64. QB’s Josh Allen $33, Hurts $28.

My league was the exact same $200 cap and those players you listed were all much lower in my draft.

JJ went for 58, McCaffrey went for 55. I drafted Pollard, Lamb, and Barkley all in the $45 range.

Yeah I think that’s a case of new auction drafters, you could have owned the RB position by buying McCaffrey too, and then a bunch of #2/3 WR’s and a $1 QB like Cousins, and likely easily won the league. We usually have 2-3 guys that don’t pay top dollar and try and get value buys later, and as of yet none of them have won. We are in year 8 of an auction, and imo you have to get some of the top talent. Our league also doesn’t payout to good finishes, the winner makes bank, 2nd does alright and a couple other positions (Playoff 3rd, Most Points etc) get their money back.

Could easily be. I know for a fact that several people in my league have literally never done an auction draft, including me. We’ve always done a standard snake draft.

ESPN listed the average price that players were going for during the draft and I tried to max out my bidding near that number. I didn’t over pay for any players by more than 1 or 2 bucks.

The auction stuff is always interesting to see the different strategies. My coworker has won his 2 years in a row, and swears by getting 3 or 4 of the guys who are the second, third, or fourth best at their respective positions then backfilling with $1-$4 guys who still start.

He let JJ set the market, along with Chase…
    Same with Ekeler and McCaffrey…

Then drafted AJ Brown, Lamb, and Watson – along with Chubb, Pollard, ect.

I’m pretty sure if I ever do one it will follow a similar strategy

That was my plan going in, but ended up getting JJ while trying to bump his price. So once I had him, I figured I’d try and get the top QB and one of my top TE’s for a similar total price as one other top RB/WR.

The only thing I know for sure on FF is a few of the top guys are going to get hurt/have down years, and the person that wins is likely going to have mid/lower tier guy(s) blow up.

Agreed on the injuries and unknowns. The reality is that if one of your first 2 or 3 picks goes down for the season, so does your team.

The best advice I ever got was to focus solely on winning weeks 1-4. If you start off 3-1 or 4-0, you are very likely to make your playoffs. That is when the fewest injuries exist. Focus on those matchups with your defense and even drafting players that play cupcake schedules to start.

Anything beyond that becomes a roll of the dice with regards to injuries. Worrying about bye weeks, weeks 12, 13, is all great – but not if you are 4-7 and out of it already. The teams that start to falter early also are not as strategic later in the year with pickups or if you are in a novice league even with setting lineups or checking last second injury updates…indirectly giving you a boost for your diligence.

Travis Kelce hyper-extended his knee in practice today. May be unavailable on Thursday vs the Lions.

Hockenson at $11 is an absolute steal if Kelce went for $70, my guess is your JJ + Hockenson for $90 is probably better than his Kelce + WR1 for however much he spent. Hockenson got SO many targets once he moved to the Vikings, I really think he’s going to have a huge year. Kelce is amazing, but also getting up there in age. At some point he’s going to have injury problems or slow down, I’d rather spend top dollar on someone younger, but that’s just me.

Auction drafts are always super interesting, you really need to be able to adjust on the fly to how the drafts are going. Sometimes you get in a draft where people will pay any amount of money for the top 1-2 guys at a position, sitting back can be good here. Other times you get more budget minded people, that’s when you swoop in and get as much elite talent as you can.

The team I posted above has really been reworked via trades to what I have now (see pictures)

I led the league in scoring on the season 16 team PPR League despite having the 16th pick (won the league last year) AND losing Nick Chubb and JK Dobbins right out of the gate. My team had the second best record.

We will see how the playoffs go…

I totally sucked this year. I finished last in Our league of 10. I had the 5th most points scored but by far had the most points scored against ( 300-400 more than the top 3 teams) I think I ended up playing the Highest scoring point team 4-5 times this year. Only top 8 teams make playoffs, so I’m done for the season. I tried like hell this week to get a win. I had several friends who had I won would have really helped them. I ended up losing by less than 2 points and lost in the final minutes of last nights game. My opponent had Mostert and I had Tenn. kicker. It did not help that after Missing the 1st pick in out draft for the last 6-7 weeks ( Jefferson ) he gets hurt rather early in the game. Only ended up with 4.7 pts from him. Just par for the way my whole season went.
