With the forecast for MN deer Opener I was wondering what other people feel the moon effects hunting. The last couple years it was a full moon on opener this year it will be a a waning crescent. Good or Bad? I feel its good because on a full moon I think the deer move more at night. What do you guys and gals think about moon phases for hunting. Fishing it seems like it effects predator fish more. So does it effect predator animals more? What is your guys favorite moon to hunt or do you not care?

Going on 48 straight years in the same stand on the opener–it all seems to make no difference.

In the right place, like fishing, and do EVERYTHING right, one will rarely fail to be successful. IMO… and gray hair experience. “too windy”/ “full moon”/ “too warm”/ “too cold” and the excuses go on and on–and hold no weight.

Work hard/ be mentally tough enough to STAY PUT ALL DAY no matter what/keep everyone away from you if possible–means no visiting others/taking a walk or visits by others to you –or going in for lunch etc. and you will surprised at how consistent you can be year to year no matter the weather or moon phase or wind direction or whatever. Gotta be TOUGH and smart…and do NOT be afraid to sit where it takes waders or at least hip boots to get there.

I agree with you on the full moon. With a full moon out to feed all night they tend to Get to their feeding spots much later. Normally after legal shooting. They also tend to finish feeding and get back to their bedding area’s much sooner. Normally well before legal shooting.
