Moody Blues and Big Horn Sheep

For years and years Carole and I have vacationed and traveled thru prime Big Horn Sheep country in hopes of at least getting a glimpse of the critters [sub-species wasn’t important] and all we ever came home with was the lyrics from a Moody Blues song….”and I still haven’t found what I’m lookin for”. We took a few days last week and drove to Rapid City to visit a couple of our grand kids going to college at the School of Mining and Technology. On Friday the kids took us on tour of the school. Saturday we drove out in the country where the tourist traps aren’t found to see some of the natural beauty found out there. We didn’t expect to see much for wildlife in bright daylight but we did see a white-tail and a mule deer. Then as we were wrapping up the drive and coming back into civilization a bit we passed a sign the said “Big Horn Sheep Crossing Area”. And there they were, 8 animals, with one being almost a full curl, standing is a guy’s yard sixty yards off the darned road. I stopped and got out with the camera only to find the late afternoon sun burning a hole in my eyes so I winged it and took a run of shots blind hoping one would turn out. And here it is.

Now I can scratch Big Horns off my list. That leaves a Grizzly. The critter with its head down and behind stuff is a big animal with near a full curl.

    Tom:

Go to Yellowstone N.P. a week either side of Memorial Day and you will see a grizzly, probably more than one.

We go there at that time of year and have seen up to 30 grizzly bears in three days viewing.

P.S. There is good chance you will see bighorn sheep as well.
