Dave, is that on the Mississippi? Lots of big perch now. Very few perch when I was a kid in La Crosse over 50 years ago.
Looks like he caught the game ball for the superbowl. I didn’t know they were changing the color of the ball this year.
2nd pic really shows the monstrosity of that thing. Holy cow. Awesome awesome fish!
Nice work, haven’t caught any perch that big since I was fishing NE South Dakota 15 years ago
Wow just read that the world record is 15.5″ and a 12.75″ girth
Nice Perch! The air boat in the background on picture #2 is pretty cool too. We don’t see much of those out west.
Great fish

Google just told me this.
The world record yellow perch (18 in or 46 cm; 4 lb 3 oz or 1.9 kg) was caught in 1865 in New Jersey, and is the longest standing record for freshwater fish in North America.
Great fish

I believe Hayden was referring to the ice fishing world record under the “tip up” section.

I had no idea there was a difference! Thanks
That said my buddy has a picture of a 17″ on a tape measure from a near by lake. It was caught in the winter. My biggest is 14.5″ a loooong ways from the 16″ the OP posted. Beautiful fish you guys got there Koonce!
I got a 16 1/2″ perch this year. Do you know what that one weighed? Mine was just over 2.5 pounds.
They are THE most beautiful fish on the Mississippi River in my opinion !!!!
Agreed. Their colors really pop in the Winter through early Spring.
It is very sad to see the common shallow spawning areas in backwaters get absolutely hammered in Pools 4 & 5. Locals leave with buckets full of 25 perch that are all 10-14″ stuffed with eggs through most of March and April.
That’s a tank for sure, and I will bet he has a lot of buddies of similar size in the river.
Nice thing with the perch on the Miss,is that they don’t seem to stunt. There have been some nice hatches the past several years. Some areas like Onalaska get pounded, but keep producing. Then you have those areas that no one really fishes much.Seen a lot of schools of juvie perch this last fall in many areas.
What a monster. The river has been un-believable for perch these last 6 years or so and it gets better and better every year. I have been catching them from 3 fow to 20 fow and everywhere in between. I seriously can’t go anywhere without catching them this year.
Those are some jumbos, and they do look really awesome out the the river.

I agree 100%. Super nice fish!
Keep up the practice of exploiting the resource. Hard to believe posting the pictures for a purpose other than personal gain somewhere along the line.:???:
Beautiful fish in these pictures. I love perch colors when taken from cold water. I think its fine to show the fish in pictures. Just forget where you caught them.
