Just got this pic from my Dad of a friend of a friend. Not going to say how big they said it was, but the more I look at it the more monstrous it becomes.

How big you think this fish is? Hard to tell obviously with camera angle, but its a HELL of a freaking fish! Congrats whoever you are! woot peace yay

It could be a 30″ fish, still a nice looking fish, he has it a long way from his body, but posed it good. If that was caught in the cities, what a nice fish.

Most of us here know the ol hold it out method, but this keeps hitting me as a big girl, big big girl.

I got walleye fever bad this fall, so maybe I want it huge. But I shrugged it off right when I saw it, but the more I look, its big.

That’s what I was concerned about, gonna have to talk with my Ol man.

I stick with my hunches, wouldn’t be surprised if it was over 31″ easy.

I guess in my experience it doesn’t happen near as much if a fish is handled properly, especially big fish. But thanks for the jerk response targa. If he kept it to put on the wall, good for him, but if you are taking pictures of it and releasing it, once you notice blood like that, get it back, don’t worry about how your smile looks or if you have the right picture.

Did they say where it was caught? I’m curious as to what the “size” it was back then, and how the story changes after a month. Fishing telephone if you will.

No crap, I was told 38″. rotflol rotflol rotflol

I found the original post that I saw this picture in. The guy that had posted it then said it was his friend that took the pic which has a 32.5″ mounted and it was larger but no measurement. Caught on a 12″ sucker on a quick strike rig.

Really nice fish, plenty that size around the metro. Kinda like catching it on a bullhead, nuisance bi-catch.

    That’s the perfect hold… I’d say not a hair past 24″.

Yes it is. Straight arm with the holding hand completely hidden. That takes practice. Nice fish, no doubt, but hard to tell with a hold like that.

The guy looks to be about 6’1″, so based on the pic, I put the fish at about 54″

    Possible state/world record.

12″ sucker on a quick strike rig would do it.

Looks to me like targa was asking a legitimate question…….relax

If a fish is bleeding badly, what difference will getting it back in the water in any amount of time make?

In any event, that is a big sheephead.

I’m 6′. if he is too, and I hold a 30″ tape up like he does, the bottom of the tape goes to my knees from the same perspective….thats really a big fish.

I don’t think any legitimate question ends with “captain obvious.” Just very disrespectful to someone you don’t even know. Like I said, if he was killing it and it was going on the wall anyway, doesn’t matter, but if you plan on trying to revive a fish after taking pictures, if you even see a spec of blood, 30 seconds is better than 3:00 minutes in my opinion, less stress on any fish, especially an injured fish has to be better for the survival rate. Maybe I’m alone here, but I believe fbrm has touched on having everything ready for a quick release and I couldn’t agree more. Just wish more people thought that way.

My PC is down otherwise I’d do it myself.

Assuming the green arrow is pointing to his middle knuckle, take your measurement of your knuckle (again don’t have tape measure on me), and apply to fish.

The knuckle being behind the fish, should make up for the tail section going farther away from camera as well, an even plus minus if you will.

I’m glad that got to at least 1 person. Take a pic of any fish you want just be prepared for a photo moment before casting that jig.. That is if you want to do your best to cpr. You can net, unhook, weigh, tape, and pic in under a minute with practice.

    Nice eye.
    Congrats who ever caught it.

The Green arrow is too big. As is the fish. Something is wrong with the photo. Fish this big and there is not another photo at a different angle. Nothing in a cooler or livewell?

    Probably about 24″-26″ fish….definitely not over 28″

I’ve bled before, a lot worse than that fish…..I’m still alive roll

Well I had some time today and busted out the old measuring devices, and going off the only thing in the pic, his first middle knuckle on the hand, judging by the skin webbing between, and have determined your about spot on.

I’m a little heart broken, and be honest, I’m still going to pretend it was over 32″ and was released in good health and is swimming around just for me still.

At the very least don’t pull the fish out of the water until you are ready. You may not have everything setup beforehand, but once you net the fish, let it sit happily in the net, in the water, until your camera app is up and your pliers are in your hand.

You can still have that mad scramble where you are trying to find all your gear, but the fish and net should be in the water still at that point, not sitting on the bottom of your boat.
