Mono to flouro knot?

Modified Albright hasn’t failed me yet for braid, but doing 6-8# mono to 12-14# flouro is a disaster.

Don’t do the swivel thing, so what knot works best for attaching these lines? Thank you.

to tie mono or flouro to each other you must use double surgeons knot. That is what we use building steelhead leaders for fly fishing. It will be tough to get right due to the big diameter difference in the lines but if you lube it well and get it pulled tightly it will work. Remember that it is not as strong as the modified alberto but that knot is hard to tie with mono. The double surgeons knot does test stronger than blood knots but does not look as pretty. I have built hundreds of steelhead salmon leaders using double surgeons knots using mono to flouro tippets.

That’s what I’ve read online but sitting in garage here I’ve had it break 3x now. Twice on the flouro(12# vanish), and 1x on the mono (6# sensation).

I’ll be trying it on 8# mono too, maybe the diameter difference is just too great, one wouldn’t think so but maybe.

Seagur knot was flawless 6x in a row, then fail 4. I’ll chalk one up to human error but still failed too many times for me.

I did put 6# mono on for open water winter fishing, maybe I have good excuse to go buy more line and just respool with 8#.

But that means I have to redo tests now with 8#, and my hands hurt.

I actually use the modified Albright. You just have to use fewer wraps to get it to synch down.

I’ll have to revisit that. Tried it once and failed so moved on. Do you wrap the mono around flouro, and say 3 wraps?
