Just asking for any comments/thoughts. Anyone out there familiar with Bilby Ranch? Have a tournament coming up and was wondering if anyone had GPS coordinates for the rock piles located in there?

Should be on summer patterns…day time high will be 91°F with slight SSW wind…it’ll be hot and day 3 of a stable weather pattern…so should/could set up pretty well…

Looking to C-rig and DD-22 channel breaks and deep (12-14 foot) rock piles…after we hit the steep shorelines for early morning topwater/jig/senko action…

You should do well if you find the rock piles. That is a good lake.

thanks. going down early to zero in on the rocks…and finish surveying the lake…

Jason, you are right…that is a nice little lake…sure do enjoy all the chances I get to fish it…wonderful diversity of habitat/structure/cover…and some pretty nice fish. Love small waters like this one…

Any advice on crank techniques? (since we haven’t yet gotten together over at Burchard…)…

The cranking isn’t very hot this year at Burchard. Too much moss growing around the submerged dead weeds from last year. You should have been to Burchard with me this weekend. I did pretty decent. I don’t know if you have scene it, but I did a report on it. Mozingo is also an excellent cranking lake.

The following brain-dead moment brought to you courtesy of ‘ADD meets Willie Boy’…

Tournament went reasonably well…had 5 ‘bonus’ fish on the card by 7:30 … then it slowed down…also non-boater/partner was on ‘0’…this was tossing frogs (spro and zoom horny toad) and pitching tubes to trees…

We huddled and discussed need to change strategy…so we reworked equipment for about 10 minutes setting up heavy jigs, C-rigs etc…plan was to move to deep rock piles…but before we did, we spent some time pitching heavy jigs to standing timber (8-15 feet of water) along channel edges…and got into some nice fish…had our chances at 15-20 bass over the next 3-4 hours between the two of us…ended up with a card of 17-18 inch fish…but no ‘kickers’…good enough for third, but got beat out by guys fishing the rockpiles…they found a couple 21’s and sprinkled 1-2 19 inch fish in as well…

I ended up finding a much larger concentration of quality fish…ending up with 13 on the card total…11 of which were 16-18 inch fish…the guys on the rocks only caught 5-6 fish…just bigger…

Of course, my pre-disposition to avoid fishing open lake conditions in 20-25mph winds had a hand in the decisions…something else I’ve got to get over…;)

Lesson learned for next time. Love this lake. Had a ball pitching/flipping to timber (my second favorite technique behind frogs)…and feel even better knowing that second half of tournament I fished ‘backseat’ really trying to get my non-boater on to fish as well…he had his chances…boated three…and missed another 3-4 that would have given him a great card…

Looking back at my game plan that I put up last week…should of followed my plan…

    NEXT TIME!

Looks like you did fairly well. The rocks are definately the place to be. Thanks for the report.
