Just got back from a trip to the St Josephs river in southern Michigan fishing for Skamania Steelhead. These fish were brought into the Lake Michigan system from the Pacific where they currently only have one or two decent runs left in British Columbia. St Joes is the only river the in the lake Michigan system that has a significant run. They estimate that 40000-50000 summer steelhead run every year in the river. Hooked into 12 fish in two days and landed 3. What a rush!! I’ve caught salmon, pike, and bass on a fly rod. None of these fish even come close to comparing to the power of a Skamania Steelhead. If you are looking for big fish on a fly rod this is a place you must check out.
