It’s been a long time since I looked in the trout forum…then I see you’ve taken up smallie fishing!

I feel threatened…next thing you know you’ll be catfishing with your fly rod!

I see you’ve changed your website since my last visit too. I always love seeing trout and trout stream photos and you have some that deserve framing.

The hopper post reminded me of my largest brown from our area. A 14 incher caught on a hopper pattern about this time of year too. After catching many 8 to 10 inchers, my 14 was a true trophy!

Looks like you’ve had a very good year… again.

Dave is a VERY good trout fisherman. And for anything else that swims in creeks.

Brian, he does go up north walleye fishin each year but I’ve never heard of him doing any cattin…yet.
    Thanks, Bill

When I was growing up in Wabasha, I did a little bit of cattin’. Late nights, cut baits and stink baits parked near the wing dams with a lantern….ah, I can still smell the stink on my hands .

I’ve been smallie fishing more by accident than anything, but I’ve actually started tying flies and fishing smallies on purpose. When it’s 90 degrees for three-four weeks, trout fishing isn’t a smart option, so going after smallies is logical choice.

Speaking of cattin’ on the fly, I have a friend in Duluth who fishes the St. Louis River and has run into several 8-10 pound cats with his fly rod while bottom bouncing for smallies.

    Take care guys,
    D.A.

David, I probably still have one of those tubs of stink bait from back then. You are welcome to it if you want??
