Question for D.A. about tippets. I think I read sometime back that you used different tippets for nymphs and dry fly fishing. Am I wrong? If not so would you please clarify your choices for tippets on nymph or dry fly fishing. Thank you very much! I’m just trying to learn more about this fishing that I really like. As a matter of fact I will be going out tomorrow a.m. on the N. Br. of WW. Thanks in advance for your reply as it will help me and a lot of other of us guys and gals who like to do the fly fishing experience. JJ

There are many kinds of tippets to use, so I’ll stick with a tippet reply vs. a leader reply (that’s a whole other can of worms). I use Rio fluorocarbon almost exclusively for everything that I do. This is not a paid ad., but it’s the best stuff I’ve ever used period. I rarely change tippet for nymphs unless something drastic happens. Fluoro costs a bit more, but it’s well worth it if you fish a lot (and I do). It’s water and abrasion resistant, but I don’t use it when I tie on tippet for a dropper pattern off a dry – the mono sinks better and that’s what I want out of the dropper, so I go mono. Some guys think fluoro sinks at a heavier rate than mono for fishing dries and will only use mon., but I haven’t seen enough of a problem to switch.

Bottom line, if you want the best tippet possible, go with Rio fluorocarbon.

    Best of luck,
    D.A.
