Fished the N.Br of WW on Monday. I fished from the first crossing above the first crossing after the corn fields to the slow stretch below the Klondike which is about a three mile walk. I caught a total of three trout of which were two stinkers and one eleven incher. I fished today from the catch and release section after the group camp on the Middle Branch. I caught two browns one 11 inches and one 13 inches. I caught both fish on bead headed pheasant tail trailed by a size 22 blue winged olive midge nypmph. Both fish were hooked on the pheasant tail. No hatches. Water is low and gin clear. The weather was perfect, there were no other fisherman, the catching was very poor but I am glad that I went! Better than raising your feet for the vacum cleaner at home in the house! I did not spook a trout both days in very clear water. I would not advise fishing this weekend if you want to catch fish!

I was out on Monday and had pretty much the same results. tried with a fly rod for the first time and realized I have no Idea what I am doing so went back to tossing spinners. Ended up with one brookie and that was it.

Just like anything new, there’s a learning curve. As eyebuster said, the water is pretty dang low and clean. We could use some rain to not only off color the water a bit, but to raise the level as well.

Stick with it. Now’s a tough time to be a newbie – especially if you can’t recognize a hatch or know where the bugs are coming off to at least raise your odds some.

A good friend of mine from Duluth (a 30 plus year fly fisher) was out the last three days hardcore (ten hour days) and struggled with nymphing since the water’s low and clear and the fish are seeing lots more traffic. He didn’t struggle once the hatches got going and the fish came up out of their lies and started to readily feed.

    Bring on the rains
