Hi, I got out yesterday to fish the hook and release section above the state park to Callahan’s hill. I fished from 11:45 to 1:30 and caught three fish. One fish was a 14 inch rainbow, the second an twelve inch rainbow, and the third an eleven inch brown. Where are all the browns on this stretch and why are the rainbows there if supposedly the DNR does not plant this area?

The fish are still going to travel the streams. If they are over populated in areas they are going to move where less competition is. I have read articles that larger trout can/will travel up to 5mi in a night.

I think the rainbows you caught were definitely stocked elsewhere and have moved into where you were fishing. I know the DNR doesn’t stock rainbows where you were. With the latest round of high water, the fish have moved around quite a bit; however, they should be back into their normal feeding lies by now.
