Just wondering who is going to get out this Jan 1? And where people are going?

I’m thinking maybe Hay Creek but I may head down to Whitewater. Not sure yet. See you out on the water!

Weather permitting – it is very possible. But not if it is cold out.

I make it out every year, some years more than others.
    Last year was very limited.
It sounds like we are likely to run into each though.
My two most likely areas for winter season are Hay and WW.
I’m in a white F150 with a fiberglass topper (company logo on door). If you spot me, please say hello.
    Good luck!
    cheers

I have not missed it since I started flyfishing. White Water is a beautiful place when people are not ruining it!

Hey Timmy, a little PAM sprayed on the eyes of your rod can get you 20-30 minutes ice free.
I learned that from an ol’timer on Hay several years ago
Just remember to clean your equipment when you are done.

Hey guys, sounds like a few people will be out there. If you see a white Ford Ranger that’ll be me. Say hi I’d like to meet some of the diehard winter trout freaks!
Bring your hot coffee and say warm !

Winter C&R season. the kids had some good luck this summer in Colorado. Like to try a little this winter if the water is shallow and slow enough.

I’ll be out. But down south a bit. Either around Forestville or Beaver Creek state parks. Don’t know which one yet.

Actually, you’d want the opposite to maximize your chances in the winter season. Trout have a tendency to hang out in the slower runs and deeper pools by nature in the winter months, unless they have a reason to move to a riffle head (Ex. a midge hatch). I’d much rather fish with more water in the stream than less. Less typically means cleaner and lower water levels, which in turn makes for spookier fish. I hope this makes sense.

    FWIW,

PS I doubt I’l fish the opener (basketball practice), but I’ll hit it some weekend when it gets above 35 (otherwise, I’m at the bench…). Hope you guys have good weather for the opener, or else it could be a long day.
