Have Winkels teach you….ought to be a breeze after trying to teach my son and myself….Winkels and I took our rods (that we built) into the mountains in Wyoming a couple summers ago….

Break it into 11 pieces and you have 11 new ice rods.

hey I bought 2 fly rods this year and need to learn as well. Maybe IDA could put together a GTG for fly fishing next year? A meet the members learn to fly fish kinda deal.

Cool! You’re going to enjoy this. I catch everything from Bass to panfish to White Bass with my flyrod and it’s a hoot. And it’s not that hard to learn either. The tough part for you will be waiting for warmer weather. Either that or you could stand 10 feet from the hole and do some ice fishing .

I’d be up for a Fly fishing GTG

I have toss around a fly rod before so it is not like I am a virgin but to say I need practice is an understatement. I also am in need of the reel, and the other assesories! this price was just the rod and since I returned a rod like this that my fiance’ gave me and got a G-loomis I figured I better jump on this price!

Hi, Just remember that the sole purpose of a fly reel is to hold the line on the rod. I suggest that you buy the cheap ones!

Did someone mention a fly-fishing GTG. I think that would be a great idea. How about Jan 1st!

Hey, I just had a thought….In April there’s a Fly Fishing Expo in Bloomington. I missed it last year but attended the year before. Seminars, casting lessons, fly tying demonstrations, vendors. Interesting time for sure. Maybe we could decide on a time around lunch and all meet there someplace.

The Expo is a great place to browse all of the cool stuff the vendors bring out, as well as participate in fly casting lessons if you wish. The only downside to that weekend (at least in my world) is that it is the early season opener weekend, of which I’d rather fish than be indoors at an expo.

They are running the identical expo in Illinois in January or February this year also.

Fly casting……it isn’t as hard as it looks. I actually taught an eight year old a few years back how to fly fish (and catch trout) in a morning. It’s like anything that requires some skill – practice, practice, and more practice.

I’ve got a few rods too that I’m in the process of unloading also: http://ontheflyguiding.com/gear_for_sale.htm

    Later,
