Hey there fly-fisherman! I read an article about the Vermillion River in Farmington, has anyone fished it?

    Hi Ben,

I was watching Ron Schara’s show on CH 11 last summer, and they did a segment where Belinda Jensen was catching HUGE browns out of the Vermillion. She was throwing Rapalas with a spinning rod. I don’t have any personal experiencce with that river but I’ve heard the biggest issue is access. There are a couple of parks where a guy could get at it but I don’t think you’d find those big Browns in a park…

Ive fished that river for years. It had always had alot of pressure, but, thanks to the media, this whole stretch of river will be destoyed within a couple years. If 5 years ago the river was standing room only on opener then its gonna be insane to see from now on. I know I wont be back, but I found another hotspot.
Quite honestly though, that river is full of really small fish for the most part, with a few bruisers in the mix. If you like catching 8 inch bows, then that might be a place to start

There is a lot of pressure. But thanks to the DNR, much of it is now catch and release. I think there may be other special regs on much of it as well. I have fished it a lot in the past, and 8 inch browns are common, few larger.
