I got out for a while yesterday AM from 8:00-12:00. After Sunday’s soaker, it was a really crisp morning (reminded me that fall is on the way), so it was refreshing to fish in long sleeves. There wasn’t much in the way of surface activity until 9:00 or when a small trico hatch came off. Fish were rising below the riffles where they typically do on a hatch like this. It was a short lived hatch, and I actually didn’t catch many fish during the emergance .
I switched over to nymphs for a while with a BWF and a black biot bodied/ white cdc emerger and did fine. With water clarity being very high, you didn’t get a lot of opportunities on each hole. I switched over to hoppers and droppers for the last hour or so as I was more interested in watching the than catching x number of fish. I managed three fish – all in the riffles and had a few classic refusal rises to my stimie patttern .
All in all, a gorgeous day to be out. One month from today marks the beginning of the late catch and release season, and two weeks later, the season is over .
Regards all,
D.A.
