The tricos have been going sporadically in southeast MN with the onslaught of heat we’ve recently had. Being on the water by 5:00 and fishing the spinner fall has lasted until 9:00 or so. Now that things have settled a bit weather wise, the hatches should be better served to being on the water by 7:00 and fishing the spinner fall on good days until 11:00 or so. I fished it yesterday north of I90 and the spinner fall lasted only about 45 minutes and fish were completely done rising by 10:00. However, the rains and storms came in about a hlaf hour later, so that could have had someting to do with it.
Stick to black (males) and olive (females) patterns in duns and spinners in #20-24. Small black PT type nymphs will also work, and don’t forget to fish those spinners sunken during and after the hatch.
Water levels are still plenty low, and I doubt that they will come up significantly even with the nice rain yesterday. If streams are a bit dirty, they shold also clear rather quickly. There is a lots of instream greenery, slime, weeds, etc. with all of the heat and lack of rain, so be prepared.
