I would have been interested in going to the Great Waters Expo, but I would rather fish than be in doors on a day like today.
I fished from 9:30-4:30 today with some driving time in between. Despite the rains in the last 48 hours and the run off from snow melt, the three streams I fished were in great shape. I also had the plus of seeing a grand total of five other anglers, but they didn’t impede upon my plans, so it was all good.
I started out with a simple scud and PT trailer. The recipes for both are a bit long winded at this point, so I’ll share if prodded. Then a scud and Shillinglaw Emerger or cdc emerger for the momentous baetis hatch that was going by 11:00. I sewitched over to dries and did well with a #16-18 foam post (or pink post, or orange post) BWO. they fish were a bit pick and spooky in the clear water, but they lost their reluctance to feed when the Dark Hendricksons came off at 1:30.
I hit a brook trout piece of water on my home, which was shooting fish in a barrel for 45 minutes.
Bottom line: today was one of those days that we remember when we’re sitting behind a computer screen or behind a tying bench in January when it’s 6 degrees outside. When it all comes together like it did today and you catch mroe fish than you can actually count or remember, and you did a bulk of it on dries for four hours, then it’s all good.
