If, and I mean if, we get some rain to jump start the streams what nymphs would you people use to at this time of the year? “Fish ON” and “Fish Off”! JJ

    JJ,

Assuming we are talking some clarity issues (we got 1.64 inches of rain in Rochester while the WW area got .68 inches), beadhead items like beadhead PT’s, Prince nymphs, and scuds would be a good place to start. If there are some worms around on the road or pavement, then give an aquatic earthworm imitation a whirl.

Flashback hare’s ears and PT’s also add some flash to your presentation, as well as the ever trusty streamer if the water temps are low enough to induce a strike.

I’ve been fishing very simple flies with grat success lately: scuds with a PT or Black Wet Fly trailer.

Turn over some rocks and see what youf find. if you’re in an area that has some tricos, then think smaller PT’s and emergers.

Meadow sections – hoppers are going to get going very soon. Most of the juvenile hoppers I’ve seen are still prety small, but that doesn’t mean they don’t end up int he water on a windy day. The parachute ant has been a stpale in my arsenal all summer for those sporadic bankside sipping trout.

    Regards,
