Fishing and stream report NBWW

This continues for me to be the worst catching season on WWNB. I went out mid morning and found the water to very clear and very low. I set the fly rod aside and wanted to find fish with my ultra lite spining rod. I fished spinners of all shapes and sizes and raps of all colors and size # 5. I caught one brown about 6 inches, had one other good fish on, and had one really good fish flash my blue and silver spinner. I fished spinners just to find some fish locations. I am hoping for some rain and a good caddis hatch next week or two.

There were some good caddis and BWO last weekend at the TU Rendezvous. The weather has been keeping the caddis from really going off well. With the warm up over the next few days, you will probably see more bugs.

I think that despite the regs that have been on the NBWW that the fishing has gotten worse there over time. I’m not sure why, but there just aren’t as many fish in the population as there once was. I rarely fish it anymore .

    Take care,

D.A. I think you are right on but I hope not. I will attend to fish it all year and hopefully I will find someting solid. Thanks for your opinion and expertise on this site. JJ

Just a thought, and by no means a professional opinion on the NBWW.

It seems to get muddy a lot faster and stay turbid longer than most surrounding streams. Could that be a factor? Even though it’s been relatively dry this year, a lot of streams were hammered hard last season (as you all know, so I’m preaching to the choir). I honestly don’t know, but I can’t imagine that trout were big fans of sediment filling their gills. Perhaps they moved farther up or down stream of what is usually fished on the NB?

Ag runoff, primarily sedimentation is going to kill our streams eventually if we don’t start taking care of buffer regions and bank erosion…IMO.
