I fished the Middle Branch of WW today for my first trip out with the fly rod. I fished from 11:30 to 2:15. I used various nymphs of small size plus some nymph style midges when I saw a few trout hitting on the surface in two areas. The result of the trip was a great day by myself, one 10 inch brown, and a chance to scout the area. I did not have a thermometer to check the water temps. Perhaps it was a problem with my yellow line or whatever. I did try orange scud without any results. I would be interested in using this fly as I have read that it was a fly to use where there is water cress which does not show this time of the year. The water was clear and with partly cloudy skys. I caught the one brown on a bead headed hares ear size 12. It was an enjoyable day as I quit ice fishing for sunnies and crappies last week. Not because it was not good but it is just that I am retired and fish 4 to 5 times a week year around for various species and got tired of the ice fishing. Good luck!

Thanks for your post. You have certainly fueled my fire for an oncoming “sick” day very soon. As long as those air and water temperatures increase, the insect lie subsurface will continue to escalate, and so wil the trout’s activity level.
