Tire Burning Plant Update

For those of you who didn’t catch the news last night, Bob Maust announced at the Preston city council meeting that he is going to pull the plug on the proposed tire burning facility and move it elsewhere. He cited “mob pressure” as a reason why he is moving his proposed plant.

Whoever you are as the mob in that area, let me be the first to offer my thanks .

I am not an “enviromentalist” but I do believe in a good clean enviroment. This tire burning station would be very bad news for everyone in the long run! It is as simple as that!

I love a clean environment so I am in favor of minimizing or eliminating anything that can hurt it. So I will say that I was not in favor nor did I know anything about this proposed plant. Knowing nothing about a plant like this and being under the assumption that modern scrubbers could eliminate virtually all particles from the smoke exhaust I guess my question is were the concerns from potential accidents or were they using the Root for cooling or wondering how to dispose of the waste or was it the emissions? Just curious.

    Thanks, Chris

    All of the above.

Part of this problem on this issue is that you’re talking about a plant so large that there is no model to compare and see what kind of emissions that would be produced. Throw in the fact that it’s not just an emissions factor, but also a safety hazard (trucks hauling tires on 52 and potential accidents, road wear) and the fact that the area is karst topography, and there’s NO QUESTION that this plant did not belong in southeast Minnesota despite the great claim that such a plant would bring 30 new jobs to the town.

Sounds like a bad deal. Thanks for the input

The link to the article doesn’t work. What seems to be the biggest concerns?

There are no concerns now. Maust pulled the plug on the project and wants to move it to a different city (lucky them).

The bottom line is that without an Environmental Impact Statement, that plant had few barriers from stopping its construction. Would you wnat a tire burning plant billowing carcinogens in the middle of Preston, an area with vast forest, expanding bike trails, and lies in the heart of the Root River system? I sure wouldn’t and I don’t even live there.
