As the “Catch An Keep” season draws to an end I feel the need to express my self, as well as many others, as to the lack of reporting on other methods of fishing trout..it seems that this site just deals in “The Pursit” form of pursuit of trout…. we’ll that’s just SAD!! very few post are on bait..And/Or spinning..HMMM…just about every other species of fish can be caught with bait and it’s OK?…but trout…NOWAY…THats bull….To all you people out there afraid to post because you caught them with “Bait”..see you next season…I plan on a thourgh report on when were and why bait is the hotest ticket in town…I will not let these “Purest” push me around any longer……

I’ve never been under the impression that fly anglers ever claimed to be purists of any kind on this board. I’ve never used the following: purist, eltist, snob, bait anglers are less than me…I could keep going, but what’s the point? I’ve already made it. As long as people follow the rules and laws, I could care less how they angle. I’ve actually had about two negative encounters on the stream in the last 15 years. Being respectful is the key.
There’s no question that under certain conditions bait would be a very successful tool in catching trout. I’d be willing to guess that now, when the streams are gin clear and there has been little or no rain in a while that dumping a crawler or the trusty Panther Martin spinner on a pod of trout would be a dicey proposition.
I eagerly anticipate your reports….we all do.
September 13, 2004 at 4:45 pm #320817DA, I have to disagree, you are talking in circles again and responed negatively in your posts towards people/groups.
September 13, 2004 at 6:24 pm #320844So offering an observation in tactics when the water is clear is talking in circles (which you already stated in a deleted post), which also is construed as negativity towards unnamed groups or people.
Cite some specific examples instead of sweeping generalizations. You don’t have to like fly anglers, conservationists, or persons interested in creating more diverse angling opportunities other than catch and kill them all regardless of their size, but at least be able to argue your point with something a little more than what you’ve stated.
September 13, 2004 at 6:52 pm #320847DA,the specifics are in your previous posts,go back and read them for yourself.”bait dunkers”, “keep your spinning rods in your cars”, “Prestonites”, “your no Lanesboro”. Are you going to have these specifics deleted?
September 13, 2004 at 7:17 pm #320852Guys
I deleted those posts and did so without any input or suggestion from D.A. I found the whole string of replies following D.A’s report to be unlikely to head towards any positive conclusion.
I’m a meat dunking, spin fisherman. Nothing said in any of D.A’s posts offended me personally as a member of this ‘group’ but of course your mileage may vary. If D.A has done something specific to insult you I bet a polite PM to him stating the specifics of the issue would result in a MUCH better outcome than what’s taking place here now.
Get this taken care of guys and let’s get back to talking fishing.
Thank you.
September 16, 2004 at 2:53 am #321342Wow, arguing on the internet, thats funny stuff. everyone needs to chill. this is just a place to share information about fishing trout either by fly fishing, bait, spinning, whatever. quit your usless bickering. quit picking on D.A., every post he writes seems pretty solid to me.
September 16, 2004 at 6:56 pm #321483I haven’t found D.A. or folks on here to be purists. Just because a guy chooses to fish exclusively with a fly rod doesn’t make him a purist. The attitude makes the purist.
By the same token I hope nobody thinks I’m a slob just because I use treble hooks. There have been occasions when the fish have been super aggressive that I’ve altered my presentation and once I just quit fishing cause I’d hooked a couple deep. Then I wish I knew how to fly fish. With the all the reg changes debate going on we fisherman, being the protective bunch we are, tend to point fingers too quickly. Me included.
Personally I don’t fly fish or use live bait. I’ve tried fly fishing several times in the last 30 years and it’s pretty much a comedy show. Taken lessons, the whole routine – just doesn’t work for me. I don’t find live bait convenient so don’t do that either. I like to grab a few Rapalas, a few spinners and work quick.
If you respect the law and beyond that, the resource and it’s environment, then you should be respected. I’m not implying total catch & release, but common sense.
If not….we have issues.
