I’m going to be heading down to the S.E. area this Sunday all day, and hit up the usual suspects. However I will be up on the North Shore starting next on Tuesday for three or four days. Has anyone been up there? Is there any hope of seeing some brookies in the usual set of streams from the Baptism on up? I’m disappointed I have to go so early but maybe with the cool weather action will heat up a little ahead of Sept.(wishful thinking?) Anyways, if anyone has been there recently let me know.

Good luck on the North Shore! I haven’t been there since June, and i was down on the Lester in duluth. I never made it farther up the shore this summer. Have a good trip!

Well I just got back. Fished the Baptism, Manitou, Cross, and Temperance Rivers. Managed about 25-30 brookies and german brown trout in the course of 3 days. I threw them all back as they were only 3-6 iches in length. Locals told me all the streams were recovering from near or total freeze outs the winter before last. The populations were very large. In the baptism I could barely get my line in the water without nailing a juvenile brookie, often striking at my fly in between my feet as I worked on a tangle or such. In a couple years the streams will be good fishing again. Guess the upcoming steelhead runs up below the barrier falls will have to keep anglers busy for now.
