I was thinking of hitting the root for some fishing. If I plan on targeting trout do I have to wait for the opener? Can I catch and release before then? I don’t want to keep anything anyway, just want to try something new.
There is a winter season for trout. It’s catch and release and you can only fish designated steams. Look it up on the DNRs web page and make sure you know where you can and can’t fish. Also make sure you know if you can use bait or lures only and hooks need to be barbless.
