Some people have been trying to find out the conditions of many of the launches on the Minnesota river. I took part of the after noon and checked out the conditions of the boat launches from Fort Snelling to Jordan also included are couple photos of Black Dog.
Keep in mind that its still pretty early in the year. Most of these should be in top shape by Memorial Day Weekend at the end of May.

If you have info on these or other launches not listed please post and keep us all updated.
    thanks

Ft. Snelling.. Need a State Park sticker for this one. Water has been dropping so the dock is shallow with a little mud at the water line. Probably not to bad to launch.

Cedar Ave. 77 Need Park sticker.. Probably in the toughest shape besides Chaska, Very muddy nothing cleared to date, No dock in the water. Look for this one to be operational probably by Memorial Day. (Note I’ve launched out of here twice this season, it took a little time to get boat out of the water with the mud it was earlier in the year before it had a chance to dry.)

Point of interest. Black dog spillway by 77. Starting to look promising. Will continue to get better when the water drops a couple more feet.

Point of interest. Black dog spillway by 35W. This one is from a distance of the 35W launch. Been seeing lots of people down in this area as the water continues to drop.

35W launch. This launch is much better after the boat barge collision a few weeks back. The upstream side is the side to launch on the downstream side is getting choked with mud. I’ve launched here a couple times this year. The stump make s for a nice current break when loading up.

New Launch in Shakopee. This looks like it might be okay. There have been attempts to clear it out. It might be a little tricky though depending on how deep the mud is. The launch seems to drop steep but the mud makes it look shallow. Going to attempt this one very soon.

Chaska. This launch is blocked by a big log. They are still doing bridge construction on 41. General Contractors are using part of the lot. My guess is that they are in no hurry to get this one operational as long as there is construction in the area.

Carver: This launch looks to be in decent shape, you can see that it has been cleared recently

Jordan: This launch is in good shape probably the best condition up there with 35W.

Larry thanks for the updates! One question though how do you get to the carver landing? Coming from the south. Anyone?

    Thanks

Good report Larry. My boat will be ready to hit the river soon. Riverhog picked up a Jon boat last night also. Did you get the pics I sent ya? I’ll try to get you some pics of quality fish for your next report.

    Hey Flaco651,
Welcome to IDA Mate…. It was nice to meet you and Riverhog last Sunday. Glad to hear the boat landing report was of use to you.
Sounds like your getting ready to do some serious Flathead fishing, once you get the boat rolling on the river. Gives you a lot more options.
I did receive a link to photo bucket from Riverhog on one of your pics. Unfortunatly It tough to use those links in a report format that we use here in IDA.
Feel free to check out the Mississippi river Catfish forum… or Species Specific forum which has catfish as well and if you want to share your pics with the group. I know that most everyone is like us and loves to see a CPRed fish.
If you recall our conversation I wouldn’t go into exact locations general waters a more than enough.
I would look forward to posting pics in a report. If you want to exchange emails send me a PM.
Welcome again. Look forward to crossing paths on the MN there is getting to be a group and its great to share info.

    Update on the 77 launch.
The DNR has this launch in tip top shape….
Ramp is completely clear and dock is in the water.
just a reminder you do need a state park sticker.
Looks like this one will be getting used very soon.

    Input on the Shakoppee launch..

It seems like there is a bit of clay built up in the water, its easy to launch, not as easy to pull the boat out. Its quite a grade(incline) at the launch, using 4 low(low range in general) is a very good idea if you like your transmission!

    Thanks for the update Dave,
I wonder if that will be a constant problem with that launch. Seems like the set up and current flow will always be depositing stuff there.

I pointed that out to Darren about a month or so ago when we tried to launch there. I bet that launch is going to be a maintenance nightmare for the city.

Might get the boat out finally this weekend. I got a bunch of things to take care of before camping mid/late next week though. I should be able to tie into a couple good flats where I’ll be camping atleast.

I dont know if its going to be a huge issue or not. The access does drop off pretty quickly, the trailer is usually in plenty deep by the time your bumper reaches the water line, and that deeper water is only going to be closer when the water drops. It would be much better if kept clean to the concrete, much of the problem seems to be your trailer tires are climbing a 30 degree angle up a sand bar as your vehical is trying to climb the ramp incline… the 1st 3′ is the worst.

I can visualize the small pickup with 2wd trying to pull out a heavy boat already… I can see smoke coming off the tires and no forward progress.

Welcome to IDA and the Minnesota river forum ed_c.
The river is coming down to a nice level.. What species do you fish for?

As far as the Bell Plain launch I heard from a Mate of mine that it was pretty muddy early to middle of last week.
Enough so that he decided to launch out of St. Peter after finding Henderson the same way. He was by himself didn’t feel like messing in the mud.
Water had come down pretty quick so it was sloppy. Its probably dried up a bit and might be cleaned off following Memeorial Day weekend.
I will be talking with some guys down in that area tomorrow. I will post an update Sat am.
