I made it out for the evening on Saturday night and fished a few different spots chasing flatheads. It was slow, however, we did have some action. We fished within a few miles of 35W hitting different inlets and key structures with fresh lively bullheads, or cut suckers. The suckrs seen pretty regular bites from *nibblers*, but only 1 decent channel cat was caught on cut bait. We had 1 run around 11 pm and hooked up with a big fish.. which managed to get itself unhooked during the fight. We had another bite on a bullhead around 12 pm which did nothing more than scratch up the bullhead with what looked like 36 grit sandpaper. That fish dropped it as fast as it hit the bait.

It was obvious we had fish checking out our bait frequently, for whatever reason.. whatever was looking at the bait wasnt taking it most of the time.

I hope to get a good report up soon, the fish are moving, I suspect good things to happen soon.

It took you a whole day to get a “good report” up. One family vacation I hooked into a decent walleye when no one else was really catching anything. I spent a lot of time in the boat. The words of an older gentleman there stuck with me. “Persistence pays”.

Thanks for sharing an update with us Dave.
About this time last year things started picking up on the MN. (Actually about another week out) I think the timing is right, now given the river conditions. Much different than last year. Just have to find the formula.
I’ll be putting some time in this week to see what we come up with.
