With the tight control on draining bait buckets, does anybody have a plan for making/converting buckets or coolers to minnow/leech containers with a bubbler to keep stuff alive?

I made one a few years ago with a 28 quart cooler and a Longer Life Bait kit that I picked up at FF. Batteries last a long time in the boat and then when I get home I plug in a regular aquarium bubbler.

Catch Saver, Bait Saver, Bass Pro Shops, Frabill and others all have products that would be suitable for what you described.

I’ll be happy to share when I get back from Florida, currently in Ft Myers/Cape Coral/Sanibel Island area and won’t be back for another week. I made one a few years back from a tall plastic pail, the kind we use for ice fishing, a true 5 gallon I believe. I installed a screened divider and a small 12v pump that I just plugged into the boat outlet. It works fantastic !! A couple years after I made mine the purchased version of it came out for sale by Frabil or one of the big companies, can’t remember which one. I can send you pics of mine when I get back. Send me a PM to remind me..thanks

I installed a bait air pump in the boat and then got a distribution valve/header at the pet store. I hooked the 2 outlets from the air pump to it and then from the valves ran a line to the livewell and one to a long hose for the bait bucket, keeps the minnows and fish in the livewell in great shape. Really helps in the livewell with the recirculation pump and air both on, hardly ever loose a fish in the livewell. In the bait bucket I use one of those bubbler rings

Throw bait into a bait tamer bag then put in bucket. I’ve just been using one of the bags for a short while and it’s really handy.

As for the container, I’ve had a 5 gal round water cooler for a number of years. The footprint isn’t big and the lid screws on so leaks are smaller. Cut a hole for the bubbler’s clip and put a rubber strap around it so it can’t get bumped and fall off. The downside is it’s hard to lug for much distance but most coolers full of water are.
