Just returned to Nebraska from a -business-(ha,ha) trip to the Brainerd area. I contacted local IDAer Ben Garver who got be in touch with Ron Bukovich a.k.a. Sliderfishn. WOW, is all I can say about Ron. From the first call that I made to Ron he was more than helpful. He put me in touch with his dad, John who guides in the area and we were set. We fished Pelican for a half day with only one small walleye so we decided to hit Lake Hubert for some bass action after talking to John. Within minutes after hitting the water and taking John’s advice we were on the fish. We caught several nice largemouth, a few smallmouth, rock bass, and a few small northern.
On the last day of our trip we decided to make the trip east and fish Mille Lacs for walleye and smallmouth. I called Ron and he even loaned me the map cards for my Lowrance. Once again Ron and his dad put us right on the fish. We knew the walleye fishing was going to be tough but were able to boat one 24 inch fish trolling out on seven mile flat. Loving to catch walleye as much as I do, this was the highlight of the trip for me. I then called Ron and he pointed me to the smallmouth and we immediately hooked up with several smally’s including a beautiful 19 1/2 incher. We also saw two large muskies up in the reefs but could not entice them to hit.
I must say that Mille Lacs is an incredible fishery and all of you who have the luxury of fishing this lake regularly are truly blessed.
Again, I can’t thank Ron and his dad enough for their help while I was in the area. They called ME several times while I was out on the water just to make sure I was catching fish. In-Depth Angling is fortunate to have such great people on board.
