You better hope that no Minnesota lakes have yellow bass in them. The only place it seems to work in Iowa is Clear Lake. A bunch of other Iowa lakes have been over run and ruined by them and have needed/will need to be killed off because of them. Seems to be pretty much a death sentence to a lake when they show up. Not sure how they work in Clear Lake but zillions are taken out by anglers each year and that can\\\’t hurt.

I agree with Big Dog10 they can ruin a lake.A few years back Clear Lake was overpopulated with them and it took a few years to get it back in balance.I think the fishing pressure is keeping there numbers in check for now.I have always posted to not feel guilty about keeping as many as you want.Hopefully the pressure will keep the lake balanced and still provide some decent sized fish

You should be able to find a few white bass on some of the bigger rivers in Minnesota. I\\\’m not sure that fish like Minnesota rivers any more than they like Iowa or Wisconsin rivers as the fish I\\\’ve caught in all 3 states are always anxious to get back in the water. I know the Clear Lake has an abundance of yellow bass and I know several other lakes in Iowa have been eradicated of them because they ended up taking over the lakes. The Mississippi is teaming with white bass (we call them stripers) and I catch a few yellow bass mixed in with the white bass every year as well. I\\\’ve been told that yellow bass are extremely good table fare. I kept a couple once along with a couple white bass and I could not tell the difference between the two. Now I wouldn\\\’t say they are extremely good eating when compared to walleye or bluegill but they are every bit as good as a crappie. It helps to take the red meat off of the filets before you prepare them.

how can yellow bass be harmful to lakes, they are just like any other fish. and they dont eat planktons so the food chain is knocked off balance. i never thought that they would be of harm to other fish. well i guess if that is the case than i would be good to take as much as you like in yellow bass infested lakes.

The DNR was/is always pumping up how good yellows are to eat and I though Yea Right. Then tried a couple and found that they were very good. Kind of like a firm crappie fillet. Mixed them in with some crappies during a fish fry and no one could tell the difference. I could because of the firmness. Yes, cut the red line out and you are good to go.

Was fishing Clear one day last summer and there was a school of baitfish in the area that had to be a half acre in size. Huge school. Talked to the DNR quy later that day and he said they were probably yellow bass fry from the spawn that spring.
