The big issue is going to be filtering or water changes, by feeding them you’ll increase the waste they produce, which breaks down in the water and degrades the quality, it all depends how much you want to spend or how involved you want to get. Cheapist option is going to be put an undergravel filter in the bottom with either a bubbler or better yet a power head to pull water through the gravel bottom. This will give you a biological filter that will break down the chemicals in the water and make the tank safe water quality wise for the fish, be aware the process to “cycle” a tank take around a month where the water quailty can get really poor (deadly for fish). After the tank is cycled you’d still need water changes (once a week 20% or so) would be about perfect, but it will depend a lot of load of the tank, number of fish amount of food, volume of water , those sorts of things. I’d be you be looking in the $75 range to set a tank up properly (again depending on size)
The other option is to keep changing the water, a lot, but that not always the best method even if you keep up with changing water.
I worked at a tropical fish store for many years, best bet would be to stop by one and get some suggestions from them, there are other ways to filter you water biologically too. I prefer A World of Fish in richfield.
