….. After a whole day of repairs and security upgrades that could happen.
What are you looking at for security. I looked it GPS tracking for my trucks and hit a dead end with it. I was told that even if you have it getting the city to use there equipment to lock on to it is anouther story. Then also what do you do if it is in a city that does not have tracking equipment. I was advised by a few people that GPS tracking was most likey wasting money.
A mechanic was telling me that a master kill switch hidden somewhere on the vehicle might be money beter spent. This may just be a toggle switch hidden some where that when off disconnects the main ignition. It still wont prevent them from breaking in or tearing apart the stearing column but atleast you will still have a vehicle in the driveway in the morning.
Yes they did scratch my mirror. That realy ticked me off. Screwed with all the dials on the radio also.

I have installed master switches in previous vehicles and it does work well. The old style rigged high beam swich(on floor) can work good for that purpose and its cheap(about $10 for the switch). I am going to install car alarms on the vehicles in the driveway that will also kill the ignition.. these can be bought for $50 or less and installed yourself. The alarm goes off when there is any current draw, or X amount of vibration/movement. I am also installing one in my boat which is parked in the same driveway in which my trolling motor was stolen a few weeks ago.
Other than that I am putting in motion sensing lights in the driveway that will light it up well, and will be especially detouring when alarms go off on any vehicle they tamper with(including boat). I am also going to look into outdoor security cameras, they are not that expensive.
Its rediculas(sp?)that we need to go to this length for security, but the location is in a higher traffic area and we cant even get the police to patrol the alley on occasion to crack down on all the vehicles doing 30+ mph down the alley to avoid the stoplight…
If the alarms go off and the would be thief at that time doest vacate the premesis in a hurry, they can answer to me and whatever I may be carrying to encourage them not to resist.
I am tired of it, this crap has to stop and its not going to unless someone does something about it. If I get in trouble for knocking the sense into someone breaking into our property, so be it if it helps insure the safety of my family.
With any luck I may be able to get some people in the neighborhood involved at least by adding better outdoor lighting.
Hello Dave. Sorry to hear about the van. Glad you got it back though. Years ago there was alot of car theft in my “hood”, so every night I’d pop off a couple plug wires, just far enough for no contact-but not easily visible. Also had some DumbA$$’ stealing car radios. My roomate was hit, 2 weeks later I was hit. Fed up, I tack welded a few razor blades to the back of the new radio. About a month later They TRIED again…… Never had any trouble after that.(other than trying to remove their blood from my carpet and seats)
