    Friends,

I am going for camping at Big Island state park [Albert Lea, MN] this long weekend. Anybody knows better location near Albert Lea Lake for fishing from shore. Don’t have a boat or something. Would be doing fishing from pier or deck.

Any river/lake around that area for fishing Bluegills?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Wasn’t there a big winterkill on Albert Lea lake a couple winters ago? I’m not positive, but I recall something like that.

that’s the one. I haven’t heard of anything since, but I know at the time it was a HUGE kill.

I think it was an oxygen shortage from the nitrates in the runoff… that’s why they all stacked up at the churning water at the dam between AL Lake and Fountain Lake.

AL Lake has it’s share of Bluegills and Crappies but they are pretty small.. (avg maybe 1/3 lb). It also has a decent population of bullheads… otherwise it’s kinda dead. Fountain lake (connected) is much the same way… except Fountain has some monster carp.

In Albert Lea there is one Denmark Park which has a very beautiful lake and dam. We found lots of different fish in that lake like BlueGill, Crapie, BullHead, CatFish, LargeMouthBass etc. I would highly recommend that place to anybody who wants to enjoy fishing along with Kids-n-Family .
