What lake are you going to?

If you are heading to the Arrowhead region, where there is alot of rocks, I would work deeper mid-lake reefs with a bottom bouncer and spinner rig with minnow/leech/crawler.

im not sure what lake me and my dad are going to go to but we would like to try maybe LOTW or Rainy lake. i dont know the area very well, in the past we have went into ontario but this time we are trying to find a lake that we dont have to cross the border, and still be able to catch some decent eyes.
Is there good fishing on LOTW on the Minnesota side, if so can you give me an idea where to head.
    thank you

My honest opinion is that if you are going to LOTW on the Minnesota side, that you hire a launch. However, if you have a big rig, good gps mapping system, and have good weather, you can hit the big lake by yourself.

What the big launch boats do now (which now is TUNA time on LOTW for the BIG walleyes!!!!!!!), is that they buzz out to Garden Is and work the reefs with a crawler harness or crank. They work just off the reefs, targeting the suspended, roaming eyes.

This is the best time of the year to go, for it is not uncommon to see 12 – 13 pound fish come to the boat.

However, the launch boats are a bit spendy.

To be honest, Mille Lacs has an AWESOME bit right now. You can also go to Upper Red lake and look for crappies……..
