Thinking about making a trip up there sometime this summer as i have relatives in Minneapolis. I have heard the lake is awesome for Smallies, how about walleye or anything else? What is the boat traffic like with it’s proximity to the Twin Cities. I will be using a 12′ boat with a 5.5 proabably, is that lake too big for my boat? It looks like there are a lot of small channels and such that wouldn’t get too rough. Thanks for the help!

Small lakes on the west end Black, Seton, North Arm would be ok.In warm weather on weekends I can’t stand to be there in a 19ft Bass Boat.Too many really big boats and traffic.

Welcome to IDA Walleye Wisdom. you might get more responses to your questionon a different forum. Most Minntonka reports are made on “Metro West of I-35″forum.
good luck. have heard there are smallies in there, but it probably is a much better Largemouth and Musky lake, than know as a Smallie lake. good luck. keep us posted.

    hey walleye wisdom,

I am sure that you can find some places that have a no wake zone that you can fish without hving too much trouble. otherwise them big crusers will give you a run for your money.

    ww,

The smallies are there, and they can be caught, but it would not really be considered a smallie lake. If you can get out early on a week day you should not have a problem. If it is nice out the lake gets very busy with large pleasure boats by mid morning that make the lake rough even for a 19′ walleye boat. I would suggest the Grey’s Bay access as there is a lot of good water close by.
