Well, as it turned out not much Fishing happened this weekend due to the weather. After spending 17 hours in a tent, only 6 hours of muskie fishing happened. With not much to report I thought I would just post it here.

My girlfriend Stacie, Rufus (my lab) and I got on the lake around 6am Saturday morning for the Muskie opener. With relatively calm over cast skies and water temps sitting around 63 degrees and a very clear water conditions (10-12′), I had pretty high expectations to see some SKIES.

See some skies we did. In only about 30 minutes of fishing Stacie raised her first Muskie ever. The fish was in the low 40″ ‘s. As it watched her bait and sat below the boat. We decided to leave the fish and come back later and try again. During the next few hours until 11:00 we ended up raising another 4 fish, with the largest of those being a high 30’s incher that I had emerge form the depth and chase my bucktail to the boat. As I brought the bucktail in I pumped it a few times and that seem to excite the fish, but could not get her to bite.

We went in around 11:00 to grab some lunch and as soon as we finished Lunch the rain started. It was no down pour, but it wasn’t light either. This rain kept up over the next 19 hours or so. I woke up @ 5:00 Sunday morning to you guessed it rain. I woke up again at 6:30 am and the rain had stopped, but a very thick fog had moved in. So thick I could not see the picnic table 30′ away . We beagan making plans around 9:30 to head home and call it a trip when the fog loosend up somewhat, so we went out for an hour where I caught 1 small mouth and Stacie had one decent hook up that came off and we never saw it.

I threw a huge jointed crank bait and a assortment of bucktails the whole time and Stacie threw Gold and a Silver Dr. Spoon, for the ease of casting and retrieving. It was still fun to be up camping in the North woods even though it pretty much was Monsoon season the entire time or if wasn’t raining the Mosquitoes were horrible. Just to let you know in case anyone is heading up North this weekend. Bring the bug clothes and spray!

A total of 5 fish raised , 1 hook up , 0 fish to the boat

Sounds like you both had a great time!!!!

If you raised 5 muskies in that short time of fishing, you were on the right track and that is a good lake!!!

    Thanks Gary.

I had some tips from a unamed source prior to hitting the water, that shortened my search. All I will say is west facing saddle between the two bells, if that makes sense to you. Now I know why the lake is called what it is. After writing that last sentence.

I forgot to mention that we saw 5 moose in about a 7 mile stretch @ 12:30 am pulling into town. The first one scared the Bee-Jezuz out of me. Came over the hill top and there she was smack dab in the middle. I put on the skids woke up the Dog and Girlfriend saying ” This might not be good” .

Luckily I was able to swerve around her.

Better than saying: “This is gonna hurt!”

Yep, there is really something to be said for west facing bays!!!

    Glad that “source” helped you!!!!!

Yeah the dog did not like being tied up to the Picnic table in the rain, while we talked

This thread has all the potential for waking up the censor, so I will reluctantly excercise discretion like a wise old dog and gracefully depart rather than getting my licks in!
