Looking for some advice on catching walleye in the boundary waters. I will be going there over memorial day weekend. Anything will be helpful.

I grew up fishing the BWCA and we always had our best luck with a jig/minnow combo for eyes. Find rapids or areas with current and it’ll hold fish. I got to the point I left the rapalas and other tackle home and just brought my jig box. Where are you going in at?

We are on the gunflint, and make our entry at bearskin lake. We go through duncan, and camp on Rose Lake. From what I’ve heard from locals, it’s mostly fished for small mouth and lakers. I would like to prove to a coupla other guys that there’s Walleye in that lake, and there’s only one way to do that…
I would also be interested in trying a different surrounding lake.

When I head to the BWCA I usually go at the season opener. Typically I pack in a flat of crawlers and wear walleye out on a simple split shot rig. I have done well casting cranks at river inlets and also trolled Shad Raps. Then in the evenings at camp I’ll toss a lighted slip bobber out with a crawler below. I’d start shallow and work deep if you don’t pick shallow fish up. Good Luck!

As a local I will vouche for what the other locals said. If you want to fish for walleyes, paddle fast through Bearskin & Duncan and get to Rose. There are some big walleyes in there but you will have a lot of competion with the large populations of smelt and ciscos.
There is excellent smallie and laker fishing on your route.

I am planning on taking the gf up to the boundary waters, I really would like to get some info from you, If you would care to share. I don’t need any big walleyes although that would be nice..I was wondering if there are any lakes that hold the numbers of walleyes, I have got to keep her interested and just would like to catch alot of fish. Size doesn’t matter to her..lol

Sounds like ya got a keeper
I know nothing about walleye fishing up there, that’s why I would like to try it. Going to the BWCA isn’t really about the fishing anyway, it’s about where your fishing. It’s one of the least touched areas on Earth.
