Monday evening TBO, Adam and myself headed up to Mora to check one of my favorite spring crappie holes. I wasnt to sure of what we would find. It didnt take long to see we had made the right choice heading up there. Main lake water temps where in the upper 50s with some of the shorelines pushing into the low 60s. At our second spot to check we found fish. Never did move to far off this spot the rest of the evening. The crappies where not jumping in the boat but we did end up the evening catching a few more than a dozen fish. Adam kept 4 for the pan and let me know that the largest was 13.5″. These lakes around mora can put out some nice fish and last night they did that. We had just a few around 8″ or 9″. Most where over 10″. There where also a few suprise fish included in our catch. 4 eyes and a slimmer. Made for a fun evening.
Bobber and crappie minnows took our fish last night. Adam tryed casting some lures for crappies and found nothing but walleyes.

Any one else been out in the area up there? What water temps are you finding. Warmest we found last night was 61.5.

There are a few lakes I really enjoy fishing up that way as well. I have yet to hit them this spring, but it sounds like the time is now. Thanks for the report.

Made it back up to Mora again on saturday evening. The cool temps and wind had seemed to slow the bite down a bit. Most of my spots just seemed to be to windy to fish light lures so we had to go looking for new areas. We focused on low wind shorelines figureing that any of the windy shores would have cooler temps due to the water being sturred up. Not haveing a temp guage with yesterday I was not able to see if this was true but we stuck to it anyways and it did produce some fish in some new areas. One of the tactics I like to use while spring crappie fishing is just plan past experiance. It seems to me that the fish will make there way to certian bed or areas every year and reuse them year after year. It might be just a couple of weed beds in a large bay of weeds or maybe just a couple of trees over hanging a shoreline on a long streach of shoreline with trees hanging in the water. I make a mental note of these areas and on a given trip will just jump from one to the next or hit them as the wind will let me. This pattern seems to be a good starting point. But like yesterday the wind had blew us off of most of the spots and it was time to go looking else where.
