If anyone is interested the lake trout bite is on here on the trail. Sag and Gunflint lake are both doing well.

    gunflint,

Care to share any details? My buddy was just up that way this past weekend. Not sure how he did, but I know I was disappointed to turn his offer down.

    Steve,
From what I’ve been hearing, white airplane jigs and buckshot rattles at about 40′ seem to be the ticket lately

Does anyone know a conversion from length to weight? A guy I know had friends in Ontario a month ago, and they iced a 36″ and 40″ trout. They have to be sumo pigs!

I am going up to Gunflint next week. Anyone know if it is possible to rent a depth finder somewhere between the cities and gunflint? I don’t get out enough to justify buying one, plus I usually fish with someone who has one. This time however, I will be going it alone, as my fishing partner has a canada license and I do not. I really find the depth finder helpful in lake trout ice fishing, so would like to rent one somewhere.

Gunflint, welcome aboard. I usually bring back a couple of lake trout from a fall trip to Canada. I smoke them and they turn out pretty well. How do you prepare your lake trout?

I see you’re a lutefisk lover so we may have differing ideas about fish preperation. I usually leave the skin on and either bake or BBQ them.
Is it true what I hear about lutefisk preperation? (Something about dogs on the porch)

Yes, putting the lutey on the porch for the dogs to season heightens the culinary experience. It also gets rid of the skunks that lived under there. But you have to be careful, you might get a family of Noweigens moving in under your porch.
