How would you fish this scenario?

Okay if you were out on a small lake with good numbers of largemouth in it during this time of year how would you fish it. It has a weedline all most the whole way around the lake still. There are lily pads and milfoil everywhere. Only 2 or three points on the whole lake and the rest is just long shorelines. Would you use jigs, plastics, topwaters, or something else. Just trying to get some opinions from the more experienced. Thanks

Assuming it is October I would start with a good searching lure like a spinnerbait, fishing across the points, any remaining green weed beds and “slow rolling” the breaklines…especially those that afford vertical access to deep water wintering areas.

    Buzzbait,

Mr Gursky hit it right on the head here with slow rolling spinnerbaits through the weeds and pads!
Another potential idea is to bring some big sucker minnows. I know its livebait….but it really works this time of year. Rig the minnow on a light jig head 1/16th-1/8th oz. (Find jigs that offer a larger hook in this size) Pitch the jig softly to the weedline edge and slowly swim this rig back to the boat. Using these big minnows this time of year opens the doors up to some mixed bag catches. We used this technique years ago and did really well before we discovered the confidence in dead sticking soft plastics and slow rolling spinnerbaits and such.
Just something different to try if you are interested.

Buzzbait, I know exactly what you’re talking about. I’ve fished the same kind of lakes and the action can be great. I usually focus on shallow areas (less than 8ft) and I totally agree a spinnerbait works great this time of year. Throw it around any emergent vegetation like pads, bulrush, and cattails or any green submergent vegetation you can find. Keep moving and don’t be afraid to fish shallow areas you normally wouldn’t or couldn’t fish during the summer. I like to fish a spinnerbait like a jig. Cast it and let it be. They will come. Keep the line tight as its difficult to feel the pickup (many times it will feel like you snagged the bottom – which you will – but set the hook anyway). Good luck.

    Buzzbait,
I would try a deep diving crank or pig and jig along the wooded edges of the runway.
I am assuming that I have the lake pegged?
The back shallows have been slow for me.
